In a recent InterNations survey, Malaga has been named the best city in the world for expatriates to live and work, marking a significant achievement for the coastal gem. According to Forbes magazine, this recognition underscores the city’s increasing allure over the past two decades.

The survey, which encompassed 49 cities worldwide, relied on the subjective perceptions of over 12,000 expatriates representing 177 nationalities across 181 countries. Key factors considered included quality of life, ease of settling in, personal finances, and more.

Malaga, situated on the Costa del Sol, not only clinched the top spot overall but also excelled in categories such as friendliness, climate, and work-life balance. Respondents particularly valued safety, the cost of public transport, opportunities for sports, and the vibrant social scene. However, critiques were directed at the local job market, where Malaga ranked 41st.

Spain emerged as a preferred destination among the foreign community, with Alicante and Valencia securing the second and third spots, respectively. Madrid, at sixth place, garnered praise for its digital and financial prowess and high quality of life, while Barcelona claimed the thirteenth spot.

The United States witnessed a notable decline in appeal, with New York plummeting from its top position in 2022 to the thirty-ninth place. Factors contributing to this decline include the high cost of living and a relentless pace of life, affecting personal and family balance despite economic prosperity.

In the Mediterranean region, Milan and Rome found themselves at the bottom of the list, just behind Vancouver, Canada.
